Window Styles with Modern Appeal for Your Home

These contemporary window styles will bring an abundance of natural light indoors, elevate your curb appeal, and deliver uninterrupted views you can feast your eyes on each day. The clean lines and sleek frames of modern windows add a crisp design element to your interior and exterior.

Some additional characteristics of modern windows include a minimalist mindset with natural texture and neutral colors. They boast of (and deliver!) optimum energy efficiency with their ENERGY STAR ratings and all they include. Their double- or triple-pane features feature gas between the panes that enhances the insulation they deliver year-round. Cleaning is a breeze when you choose tilt-in windows, and you get to bypass the dangerous ladder climbing others choose to reach their second story windows outside.

These window styles come with plenty of modern appeal:

1. Double Hung Windows

Increase your home’s ventilation with popular, double-hung windows. They open from the bottom up and from the top down to usher outdoor air inside and indoor air outside. Their easy-to-clean, tilt-in feature is a favorite among homeowners. They work with a variety of home styles, and in any room of the house.

2. Casement Windows

The second most popular window style is beautiful casement windows. They offer a sleek, minimalist look that pairs well with modern homes. They open outward like a door does, but on a hinge you operate from indoors by cranking it. These beauties catch fresh breezes as they extend outward. Casement windows offer clear, unobstructed views for your enjoyment. In addition to looking stunning in an open-concept living and kitchen area, they are handy in small bathrooms where you need more ventilation.

3. Bay Windows

Big windows are in style, and they deliver! They are made of three to five windows that form a semi-circle that extends outward from your home and creates a cozy place indoors to eat a meal, read, or simply relax.

You get to enjoy views of the outdoors from several angles when you choose bay windows, and the ensemble is made of more than one window style. For example, the largest window—which is centrally located in the group—is often a fixed, picture window whose primary function is to usher in natural light and give you massive views of the outdoors. On each side of the centrally located picture window are two to four additional windows that add style and function to the group. They may be either casement or double-hung windows, opening to usher fresh air into your home.

4. Sliding Windows

Sliding windows offer sleek frames that don’t take up much space, allowing for expansive views. They also invite natural light to come teeming inside your home, lifting the atmosphere of your dwelling. These cost-effective windows offer energy efficiency and low maintenance. They slide horizontally, so they work well as basement egress windows.

5. Awning Windows

This unique window type opens from the bottom and extends outward. So, they are hinged at the top, meaning you can leave them open if there’s a gentle rain outside! This versatile window option works in many places in a modern home. They are perfect for right behind your kitchen sink so you can open them easily when you need more ventilation.

These windows are rectangular, with a width greater than their height. They open with a hand crank (like casement windows). The difference between them and casement windows is that their hinge is on the top, while casement windows have a hinge on their side. They combine well with other window styles. For example, they can “extend” the length of picture windows by being installed below them in your open concept living area.

6. Picture Windows

If you’re looking for modern design, picture windows are a must! The gorgeous view they deliver of the outdoors will brighten the atmosphere inside your home and enhance your enjoyment of it daily. These windows are fixed, so they have no moving parts. They are long-lasting, low maintenance, and delightful! Think about it; rather than hanging pictures of beautiful vistas, you can frame the beauty of your property with a gorgeous picture window and enjoy it year-round.
